Pansies, calendula, stock, and nemesia are annual flowering plants that thrive in winter. Broccoli, cilantro, cabbage, peas and radish are all vegetables that grow well in winter.Perennials are plants that do survive the winter.Usually the plant part that grows above the ground dies , but the roots are protected by layers of snow. Then in the spring, the plants will start to grow again. Many trees lose their leaves each fall . They are called deciduous trees .
- In the fall, heat, light, water and minerals become less available.
- The trees get rid of the leaves by stopping the flow of food to the leaves.
- Once the food supply is shut off, the leaves change color and then fall off.
